“The Power of the Pen Compels You!”
Or truth. Speak your truth. How about passion. Speak your passion.
What does ‘speak your truth’ even imply. A cliché that’s lost its meaning? Yes, definitely yes. It’s a statement I’ve seen so many times. It started with Oprah, and it’s become a different meaning for the person reading it. Objective, right?
I’m trying to gather the courage to write whatever subject I’m passionate about.
Speak your truth. Scratch that. Write your passion. Ha! Better. “Tell your story.”
To me. The courage to speak your truth is… initiating a subject matter that could be, controversial, opinionated or something not even on the reader’s radar. The writer speaks their truth. Their passion. And leaves their vulnerability on the pages, in words. Articulable or not.
My truth? To write even if I’m not noticed. To write without any expectations from anyone who would read my truth. To accept the load of crap of words I’m writing. Ha!
Writing in a public setting such as this social media platform and trying to articulate, convey, express what I’m trying to write about? It’s scary. Kudos to all you writers who write your truth. Write what you’re thinking about. Write what your passionate about. Write to write.
Writing my passion is a vulnerable feeling.
What does my writing show the reader?
It shows my intelligence. My skill at writing. (if any…Ha!…heavy sigh). My thought process. My opinions. My soul.
And yet the power of the pen compels me to write. The power of the pen doesn’t care if I can’t write with skill. Or make any sense. Damn you pen. It’s telling me. No, scratch that. It’s demanding that I write. “The power of the pen compels you!” I think my head is going to spin and I’m going to vomit.
That’s how I feel after I write a post, article or book. Ha!
But…I tell myself. “Hey you.” While looking in the mirror (Did I mention I hate mirrors) and I point in a dramatic pose. “You write crappy. So…Just write.” And just like that. My expectations have been lowered. Crappy writing is acceptable. No judgement.
I cringe after every post, article I write. I can’t go back and edit. I refuse. If I do, I won’t post it. I’ll give myself a reason to keep it hidden away. So, my apologies to the grammar police. I’ll take the ticket. Ha!
Maybe someday I’ll get pass this feeling. Maybe someday I’ll be able to look at my writing and marvel at the words I’ve written. Maybe…forget it. It’s a load a crap! But…
“The power of the pen compels me.”
Non-Deficere!
