The Romanus family · Leadership & bloodlines
Adonai is the father of Ambrose Romanus and Rachelle Boaz, and a central authority within the Church. Ambrose enforces its will and prepares his son Jacob for future responsibility.
Rachelle’s love for Luke violates the Church’s laws of bloodline purity. Jade and Nick become targets of an institution led by their own family.

The Church directs an order of superhuman assassins descended from fallen angels. A High Priest or High Priestess leads the House, advised by seven Master Assassins on the Council of Shadows. Conroy Cipher, the Death Merchant, is one of its killers.
Horace Brown · The cost of loyalty
A Zotis of mixed ancestry, Horace is never fully accepted by the Church despite his devotion. After participating in Jade and Nick’s kidnapping, he turns against its orders to protect Nick. His final act of defiance costs him his life.
